The Best of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
19 days, 2500 km
Join us on this thrilling discovery tour to
the former Soviet republics Estonia, Latvia and
Lithuania. Each country with their own inheritance and
unique history. Many powerful neighbours have fought
cruel wars in the aim to control the strategic territory
on the border between east and west.
In spite
of the longitude the climate is mild. The nature is
untouched and it is common to encounter nesting storks
and to see their magnificent circling flights over the
landscape.
During the last 200 years the coast has developed an
excellent spa culture. We pass through several
prosperous spa resorts and at Parnu you will have the
opportunity to try this soothing Estonian luxury.
All three of the Baltic capitals have earned the worlds recognition and are listed
in UNESCOs world inheritance
list.
The trip starts in the World Heritage city of Tallinn.
We to on a guided tour and make a breathtaking journey
from the glory days of the Hanseatic Trade Union to
years of Swedish influence and the subsequent Russian
occupation until the longed-for freedom in the early
1990s.
We visit the old Hansa city of Riga. The
city is beautifully situated in a sheltered bay of
the Baltic sea and is well-known for its stunning art
deco-architecture.
We make a tour to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania once
known as "Europe’s Jerusalem". With cosy
atmosphere and wonderful baroque architecture Vilnius is
perfect for a rambling tour.
On the northern part of the Peninsula we pay a visit
to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, with one of Europe's
most well preserved Medieval Old Towns.
The tour continuous through old villages through beautiful landscapes
with endless woods and lakes.
Here, in the middle of nowhere, we visit the Hill of
Crosses that during hundreds of years of occupation
became a symbol for the peoples dream of a life in
freedom. Thousands of people came, and still come, to
this holy place to find hope for a better life.
We continue east, deep into the Finnish bay towards Russia. At Narva we cut south
and drive along the shore of lake Peipus.
Peipus is Europe's forth largest lake and forms a
natural border towards Russia.
We make a stop at
the "amber-coast" in the west with its endless white
beaches and impressive sand dunes. On the Curonian spit
peninsula we visit "little Sahara" with Europe's highest
sand dunes, the highest is more than 50 meter high. The
dunes are on continuous move and demands endless efforts
from the people to keep them under control.
For maximum enjoyment and safety we have
limited the
number of participants to 12 vehicles for each tour.
We do not travel in a convoy. We drive
in
small groups or individually or together with the tour
management depending on your own preferences.
Each morning we gather for daily
information about planning, extra sights and other stops
for interesting places to see and experience, about
guided sightseeing and about the next stop for the night.
The tour is open for booking until two months before
departure.
